Singorama Review: Learn How to Sing (Online) in 2009: It’s on MY List of Resolutions. Is it on Yours too?

For years, I didn’t really sing.  But when they were looking for people to sing in our Christmas Choir at Unity, I decided to give it a shot.  I didn’t think I’d last halfway through rehearsal, but instead, I not only did just fine — I had fun!

And I really regretted that I had waited so long to give singing a chance. I think I’ll have to look for another choir.  While I really enjoyed that experience, I did feel that my voice was a bit weak and so I was looking for a program that would systematically strengthen and improve it. I wanted to learn how to sing better.

And that’s why I was intrigued when I saw Singorama, the online singing program.  Did it really deliver?  Here’s what I found out:

Well, for starters, I was already familiar with the makers of Singorama — I knew Jamorama, and that was one heck of a great program.  So I had high expectations of Singorama as well.

If you’re not yet familiar with Singorama, you should know that it is an online course that promises to teach you to sing with professional quality and precision within 3 months. That’s quite a claim, don’t you think?  But let’s see what’s in the course:

There are 28 audio lessons. Each one is quite extensive and includes warm ups, instructions on proper breathing and posture, and help with learning to stay in tune.

Then, they also teach you the difference between chest and head voice and how to control each one. They give you exercises that will help you extend your vocal range, and much more.

You’ll even get to study a variety of song styles.

But there’s more:  They’ve done my own secret trick one better.  I used to use a tape recorder to record my own voice and that of the model I was using side by side, so I was able to compare the two voices (mine and the model’s) like an outside observer would.

This was quite the power tool when I taught others German or English.  You know how you don’t sound to yourself like you sound to others, right?

Well, guess what! Singorama actually gives you your own software so you can record your voice using your own computer. This is where Singorama goes above and beyond a standard course. It also comes with pitch training software that is quite excellent.

Overall, you’re not going to get this kind of training for this price anywhere else.  I mean, it costs about as much as one single private lesson, or maybe two if you can find a very reasonably priced teacher.

Is there anything that doesn’t live up to expectations?  Not if your expectations are reasonable.  So what is that supposed to mean? Your voice will get better, maybe a lot better, but not everybody will be able to sound like Mariah Carey or Pavarotti or whoever your favorite vocalist happens to be.  And some people may find that disappointing.

Still, you may surprise yourself.  You’ll never know until you give it a really good shot, and Singorama will give you that opportunity for a very reasonable price, especially considering what you get (and the alternative).

Remember that corny old ad?  “They laughed when I sat down at the piano…”  But they didn’t laugh once he started to play.  Here’s your chance to relive that moment ;-)

Why don’t you check out what Singorama is like and see for yourself?  You can find it right here:

    Thanks for your comment.

Well, I guess people have different voices… and different ranges where we sound good… But then what sounds good is a matter of taste too, isn’t it.
