Treatment of Swine Flu (Spiked Chicken Soup etc)

Hello again. Here’s now the sequel from the previous post: How to treat swine flu?

No big secret: Just like the regular kind.

My self help blog style advice… (remember that I’m not a medical doctor (my doctorate is a Ph.D.), just an alternative health stuff nut.

Then again, in Germany, where I grew up, my father was definitely practicing integrative medicine. So I grew up with herbs etc and Kneipp treatments and all kinds of cool stuff, the specialness of which I only learned to fully appreciate many years later.

So I’m a walking repository of info on alternative treatments of various kinds… and I’m happy to experiment too. Just remember, you might want to check with your doctor before taking any of my advice, which is right below:

First of all, be careful with over the counter meds. Make sure you don’t overdose on taking multiple kinds with overlapping ingredients.

I once found myself fearing for my life when I had inadvertently ingested twice the recommended max dose of some ingredient that caused me to get an extremely rapid heart beat.

It was in the sinus stuff AND in the cough syrup, and i had missed the bit in the cough syrup. Now I read ingredients very carefully, and prefer single symptom remedies with single ingredients (or no more than a couple) and make sure I know what each of them does and that they don’t interact before I combine them.

For the sniffles, I am still a great fan of the “classic” Sudafed that I now have to get from behind the counter. It works like a charm (even at half the recommended dose, so one pack lasts a LONG time) and helps me sleep because it keeps my nose unclogged (usually, and much better than anything else).

Cough: Robitussin DM (I use the sugarfree kind). Learned that in Berkeley from a nurse practitioner in the Student Health Center.

Sore throat: gargling with salt water. Among other things.

Lozenges are great too. My favorite — Olbas Pastilles

And with other meds — be sure to read the ingredients of lozenges and stuff as well — you don’t want to overdose.

And then, the other stuff… Here’s my list of things I did and took that helped me feel and get better:

Your mileage may vary, but heres a sampling:

My power chicken soup. I take organic chicken stock, heat it, mix in some shiritaki noodles, and lots of chopped garlic, ginger, and green onions, plus some cayenne pepper, and some other spices to taste.

Have a bowl of that several times a day. Other than that, drink herbal teas for their soothing as well as medicinal qualities, and take loads of supplements.

Among my favorites: Quick Defense by Gaia Herbs. In fact, that stuff has accelerated the progress of various colds and flus ever since I first discovered it. I now keep it handy just in case because it’s important to take it right away.

Also NAC (N-Acetyl Cystine) and Olive Leaf are great immune system strengthening supplements.

And of course the usual multi and C and so on.

A regular dose of Airborne.

Vick’s Vaporub and essential oils for respiration.

Lots of soup, chicken and otherwise.

And LOTS of sleep.

What helps you? Any secret recipes? Comments?

I keep wondering why people are making such a big deal about swine flu when it appear to be treatable like any other form of flu.

  2. Elisabeth Says:

    Hi Annaly,

good question. Maybe it’s because people do die from it, or rather, its complication. Even the “normal” flu kills some 35 thousand people each year. Don’t know how come this seems to be flying under the radar the way it does.

And the swine flu is likely to infect epole much more easily since they have no immunity against it, so if it does really spread, those numbers are likely to go up.

Also, the flu can be pretty miserable, and just because most people don’t die from it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take it seriously.

I am not a doctor and also not specialized in the treatment of viruses and infections. My boyfriend came back from the doctor who told him that a normal flue actually is more dangerous, than the swine flue. So he got his normal flue shot. I decided for the moment being (as I don’t belong to a certain risk group like chronical deseases or older people or child) not to ask for a shot against swine flue, but to focus on the empowerment of my own immune system on a mental base. Th is treatment has absolutely no side effects (another friend became so dizzy after the swine flue shot and was unable to fall into sleep the night) and I guess that I have more to win than to loose. During my education in health clinical hypnosis in Berlin (Harmony Power) I learnt to know the positive effects to influence the health of people in a positive way. Even chronical disturbances like bed wetting, spasms of fear and epileptic seizures could be influenced in that way, that they dissappeared forever.

I lately was invited by a famous clinical hypnotherpist in the US to test some of his programs for free and I am very happy to tell you about the positive effects of his “Boost Immune System” program.

All normal symptoms of a normal cold like ’sniffer, cough, a sore throat causing uncomfortable feelings disappeared totally after only 1 treatment of the hypnosis program which I followed in the comfort of my home in bed, listening to the powerful hypnotical suggestions and the new programming orders of the hypnotherapist Steve G. Jones.

My friend was an eye witness and couldn’t believe it that his sniffeling, coughing,, and sweating, headache claiming girl friend could jump out the bed next morning, without any of the a.m. symptoms left.

Ok, you are right. It was only a normal infection (cold). But why a person should not be able to influence his body-mind-spirit system on a deeper level (immune system) to strenghten it to fight against harmful viruses?

I decided to use this program on a regular basis (every 2 days) like a zinc capsula to prevent stronger infections from November to March. And in case any symptoms may occur, I can increase the use of these hypnotical sessions on a daily base or even more often.

What I want to express here: It’s an additional methode and cannot replace any doctor t

    Hi Gisela,
thanks for your comment (a whole article, really). That’s really interesting that hypnosis can be that powerful, though not totally surprising. And I agree wtih you. This is not an either/or situation. I believe in using whatever works, in any combination.

One thing to remember — the old Hippocratic oath: first do no harm.

So if someone needs a doctor, by all means go. That doesn’t preclude using alternative means, from herbs and aromatherapy to hypnosis to EFT to Quantum Touch and other energy work. Oh, and acupuncture/acupressure of course too.

I think it’s great that we have all these options now!

Hi there, I’ve just stumbled upon your website while browsing around online as I’m searching for some material on hypnotherapy and past life regression. I think it’s a good blog so I’ve bookmarked this site and I will revisit you another day to give it a proper look when I’m more free.

  6. Elisabeth Says:

Thanks for visiting! Glad you found it interesting. I’ll check out yours too in the next few days.

    Elisabeth

  8. Steve Parker Says:

I read your whole post, the tip you tell us about swine flu is very useful, and I agreeing with commentator who said that why we make it so big deal if it has local treatments like other flu, thanks for sharing this. I search some health care topics on net & found certified reseller of all scripts during search.
