The benefits of getting enough sleep — and better sleep

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

I’ve been skimping on sleep lately. And I can tell the difference.

Ouch!

Trying to keep up with deadlines can sometimes backfire… My brain simply doesn’t work as fast when I’m tired. So trying to get something done when I’m so tired that I’m about to get keyboard marks on my forehead is clearly counterproductive.

Have you ever been there? What makes us do this? Some need for self-punishment maybe? That’s just plain silly.

The other day I came across just the Abraham Hicks quote I needed to see:

Just do your best to keep yourself in balance. One of the first things that causes Energy misalignment, is asking or demanding too much of yourself in terms of time and effort. In other words, you just cannot burn the candle at both ends, so that you are physically tired, and then expect yourself to have a cheerful attitude. So, the rule of thumb has to be: “I’m going to be very, very, very happy, and then do everything I have time to do after that.”

— Abraham

Excerpted from the workshop in West Los Angeles, CA on Sunday, March 6th, 2005 #249

So what’s the action plan?

Reorder priorities….

Get enough sleep, in one piece. Go to bed at a reasonable time sleep till morning and don’t get up in the middle of the night to work on another project. Just because I can isn’t a good enough reason to interrupt my sleep. I’ll be much more effective when I get it all in one chunk.

if a deadline is really urgent, I suppose I can get up earlier in the morning. Still… the Abraham quote really made me reevaluate how I go about business.

Here are more things I plan to do:

Take a nap when I feel tired. And/or make sure I spend some time outdoors while it’s light.

Today is a gorgeous day! The way to show my gratitude for it is to actually take advantage of it, go for a walk, and enjoy that beautiful day.

What about you? Are YOU getting enough sleep?

Look out the window. If it’s nice out, take time for a walk if you can.

Have a great day.

Feeling Better Fast: Moving Up the Emotional Scale

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Ever have a bad day and don’t know what to do with yourself? Okay, so who doesn’t… And it’s time I address this topic in my self-help blog again…

Sometimes, (or often), your bad mood or feelings of stress and despair may feel quite justified by outer circumstances. And yet, we all know that we cannot usually control those circumstances. Not all of them anyway. Especially not other people. Or the wealther. Or a whole lot of other things.

But we can control how we feel, even if it doesn’t seem that way.

And I love Abraham’s tool, the emotional scale. It never fails to work. I wish I would remember to use it more often, because when I do use it, miracles happen — sometimes VERY fast.

Except… and here’s the trick, if you do it just so that there will be a miracle it won’t work nearly as well. So just immerse yourself in it for the sake of making yourself feeling better, one step at a time.

You can find more details about the emotional scale in their book “The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent.” (Esther and Jerry Hicks).

Of all the Abraham books, this one gives the most detailed examples on how to work through the emotional scale. I actually copied the most applicable one out of the book, and started adapting it to my situation.

And every time I feel the need to raise my vibration (okay, not every time, but I really should), I take out one of my scales and adapt it to how I’m feeling right at the moment, and then work my way up the scale. By the time I’m done, I’m feeling way better.

If it’s nice outside and still daylight, I’ll go out for a walk, which raises my vibrations even more.

So give it a try…

I’ve written a few other posts about this, which you can find in the Abraham-Hicks section.

May you have a fantastic day!

The Law of Attraction — and Stress: A Different Perspective

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Does The Law of Attraction really work? I think so. But here’s the scoop:

I just found this really cool article about it on Twitter:

http://www.youaretrulyloved.com/enlightenment/the-deeper-purpose-behind-the-law-of-attraction/

Check this out and let me know what you think. The thing is we’ve all been going about getting what we want the hard way. Well, most of us have. And I’m the grand master at doing things the hard way.

In fact, I think I’ve had a deep down feeling that I only deserved things I got the very, very hard way. It’s sort of a justification for why I got them.

And now I’m learning that I was going about it the wrong way. I should approach things with much more ease. To focus on what I want, enjoy the idea of having them, and then mostly do what seems to be the next step etc.

I’ve learned that from Bill Burns years ago, but didn’t fully "get" it until I’ve been studying Abraham-Hicks and the teachings of Unity. And yes, I do have relapses…

But things do go so much better when I focus on the positive, on what I want and banish thoughts of negative possible outcomes from my consciousness as much as possible.

While doing my part in making things happen.

So here goes…

Oh, and how does stress figure in with the Law of attraction? Well, doing things the hard way causes stress, and stress practically keeps the desired results from you.

So one step towards getting somewhere is to get a grip on stress. Obviously, there are many ways to do that. If you want to know one way, you can either sign up for my free report at any of the sign-up forms right here, OR you can go to http://www.FreeStressTipsReport.com and sign up over there.

And I’m just working on a new edition of that ebook, and if you still get the old version, you’ll get the new one automatically (unless you unsubscribe before I have a chance to send it to you).

So let’s all relax into attracting what we desire :-)

Happy attracting!

Abraham-Hicks Placemat Process: When it’s all too much

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Do you know the Abraham-Hicks Placemat Process?

It’s the most amazing tool you could possibly have in your tool box when you often feel overwhelmed by to-do lists. It works wonders for giving you stress relief.

The fact is, we lead linear lives. No matter how skilled we may think we are at multi-tasking, we can only be in one place at the same time. And we really can only do one task properly at each moment.

We may be able to alternate our attention back and forth, and sometimes this may be necessary, but for most of us it increases stress and for some of us it gets us nowhere fast.

So what’s the placemat process? It’s based on the idea that we can only do so much and still be effective, and that we don’t really have to do all of it. There’s a force out there greater than us that helps us out.

Have you ever noticed that some things you just didn’t get to seemed to take care of themselves in miraculous ways? Or they didn’t seem all that important anymore? Or you got a chance to do them much later and it was okay?

Those are all signs that something greater than us is helping us and guiding our subconscious. The main thing is that we must stop stressing. And the placemat process helps with that.

Here are the instructions:

Get a big piece of paper (placemat size works well):

Draw a line down the middle.

Write a reasonable number of items that you MUST get done today on the left side. Title that section: Things I will do today.

Write everything else that you think you ought to get done etc. on the other side. Title that section: Things I’m turning over to the universe.

And then just do the things on your list.

Also keep track of how many of the Universe’s list will get done. You may be surprised.

You can read about the Abraham Hicks placemat process in “Ask and it is given” by Jerry and Esther Hicks, and in many other of their publications.

If you’re in internet marketing or another fast-paced line of work where you feel like you have to get a tremendous amount done, you may also want to check out

http://www.IMTimeMastery.com

It’s written by a former Buddhist monk, it’s quite amazing, and I’m very excited to be able to offer it to you:

If you want more traditional advice, you can also sign up for my FREE time management tips series:

But don’t forget — there’s only one you and you need to take care of yourself, which includes pacing yourself and allowing yourself rest when you need it, to be able to do what you need to do and to fulfill your destiny.

Have a wonderful and relaxed day, and do give the placemat process a go if you haven’t already.
You may find it’s the greatest stress management tool you’ll have ever found. Because much stress comes from time “running away from us” and us trying to keep up.

Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo: Buddhist Chanting for Manifestation?

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Chanting for manifestation? I read about it in Tina Turner’s autobiography quite a few years back and was intrigued. But I didn’t really follow up. Part of me didn’t really believe it. That was years before I discovered Abraham.

Last Saturday, I had an experience that made me a believer (or at least a tentative believer):

A few friends from Unity got together to work on manifesting money and other things they wanted in their lives. Of course, I’m interested in that as well, as you know from previous blog entries, especially for my New Zealand trip (see below) (and also for the bills etc.).

The meeting included a chanting session, led by Gino, a Buddhist (don’t know what descriptive noun to use — I’m not sure he’s a monk, and “expert chanter” definitely doesn’t sound quite right).

In any case, he explained the meaning of everything, the chant as well as the altar we sat in front of and how it would work, and proceeded to lead us in our chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo for about 30 minutes. It was an extremely powerful experience.

Before I left for the meeting, I had frantically tried to list some stuff on Ebay but wasn’t able to because my camera’s battery was dead and I had to wait until it charged.

I had also set up a listing in a forum where people sell each other their products and services, but wasn’t holding my breath. The response to my previous efforts there had been underwhelming to put it politely. I didn’t even make my listing fee back.

Yet when I returned home after the chanting and checked my email and discovered that I had received THREE orders on the forum, two of them quite substantial! The results from that evening totalled more than 40 times more than what I had received in the entire time before.

I had done a better job with the marketing aspect, but still, the timing was really uncanny. (and no orders since either! I will have to chant some more).

I was definitely impressed. Gino had told us to expect results, but so quickly, and so clearly? I’ll be chanting regularly now. I think I can do it in place of some of my meditation sessions…

You may want to try it too. Just be sure you get the most important part right, which is to think of what you want to happen while you chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo.

Will it work if you chant something else? I really don’t know. My opinion? Why mess with success?

The rest of the evening included treasure map making (depicting the things we wanted to manifest in our lives, and very yummy food!

And now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to do my chanting for tonight!

P.S.: Maybe I should add a chapter about chanting in my stress-relief ebook

Less Stress & More Success With Abraham-Hicks Placemat Process

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

I bet you think I’ve morphed my blog into an internet marketing blog. Not quite, though I have to admit, the temptation is great. Especially now that Marlon’s Info Product Dashboard is available and being hawked all over the internet. If you want one, please click this link right here please for a look at what the fuss is all about.

I’m still waiting for my copy — which no doubt will appear in my mailbox very soon. Remember, I won it in the contest (see entry below). And I will definitely put it to use and will let you know what I think.

I’ll also start a spin-off blog soon, where I put all the internet marketing stuff. www.myfavoritewebstuff.com will be its name. Don’t go there now — there’s nothing there yet. Just stay tuned.

Now about today’s topic:

Stress is NOT good. Especially if there’s too much of it. And stress and overwhelm result especially from looking at to-do lists that have way, WAY more on them than we could possibly accomplish in a week, or a month. Unfortunately, that doesn’t keep us from thinking that we need to do all of it yesterday, or today at the latest. Ouch!

What to do?

Abraham-Hicks has a wonderful process for just that kind of situation: the placemat process.

You take a big sheet of paper and your to-do list. Now you draw a line down the middle and write on the left side: “Things I will do today.” Abraham suggests that we add “and I mean it!” for good measure. On the right side we write “Things I want the Universe to do.”

On the left side, we now add the things (just a few, easily accomplishable in one day) we REALLY need to do TODAY. Everything else, and I mean EVERYTHING else, goes on the right hand side. Let the Universe deal with it.

Now go and do the things on your side of the sheet. Stop worrying about those on the left side. More than you might believe will be taken care of by the Universe, or so they say (and, oddly enough, I’ve found that to be true in a lot of situations).

Repeat the next day, and on any day thereafter when it seems like there’s just too much to do.

That’s it!

This technique or process, along with many more, is described in more detail in “Ask and It Is Given.” (see below)

Of all the Abraham books, this one is my all-time favorite! It lays it out how it all works, and the processes just rock! I’ll write about another one of those processes soon, either here or in my newsletter or maybe I should call them news emails since they tend to be pretty informal most of the time. Meanwhile, have a fantastic day!

Abraham-Hicks: Power of Emotions. My Newest Favorite!

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

I just finished reading the newest book by Abraham-Hicks, i.e., Abraham channelled by Esther Hicks, and it’s a real winner!

I’ve been to a couple of their live events, and always feel like I can’t take notes fast enough — plus the note-taking distracts from the experience. Of course, I can also get the CDs, which I do, but still — it takes weeks for them to arrive.

So it’s wonderful that this new book actually provides an excellent written-down version of Abraham’s current teachings — about the amazing power our emotions have about what is going on in our lives — and how to best manage that power to make our lives work well. If you prefer audio, the book is also available on CD, of course.

As in the previous books, Abraham provides a series of step-by-step processes. Here they all deal with various emotional states, selected to cover issues very close to most people’s hearts.

Whether it’s quarrelling children, too many bills, frustration about too much weight or too much stuff, Abraham has a section that helps us improve our emotional state — which brings us that much closer to the desired outcome.

After all, so much depends on the statements (and ensuing emotions) we create about the issue at hand. A particularly intriguing (and amusing) example is a sequence featuring a “chat” with a cookie in the weightloss section.

I love that book! And I’m sure you will too. You can get additional information about it right here:

And, by the way, if you haven’t signed up for my email list yet, you can still get in on my freebie thank-you deal by simply going to my special freebie offer website.

Have an amazing day!

Feeling Better — working yourself out of the dumps Pt. 2

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

Here’s the promised more elaborate technique:

This technique is from the Abraham-Hicks book, “The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent” by Jerry and Esther Hicks (see below). There, they provide several detailed examples. For the purpose of this blog, I was going to use their examples as models and make up a different series of statements to illustrate how the technique works.

The idea is that we can’t jump from misery to happiness in one fell swoop. But what we can do is move ourselves up that emotional guidance scale one or two steps at a time by creating statements that reflect the next-higher emotion, etc. We can even write several if possible, the more the better, to really let that next higher emotion sink in. And then move up to the next, etc.

Well, I changed my mind about posting the original scale I put together for posting purposes, but I will try to come up with a replacement one so you’ll have an example. Meanwhile, here’s the scale to get you started:

Abraham-Hicks emotional scale:

1. Joy/Knowledge/Empowerment/Freedom/Love/Appreciation
2. Passion
3. Enthusiasm/Eagerness/Happiness
4. Positive Expectation/Belief
5. Optimism
6. Hopefulness
7. Contentment
8. Boredom
9. Pessimism
10. Frustration/Irritation/Impatience
11. Overwhelment
12. Disappointment
13. Doubt
14. Worry
15. Blame
16. Discouragement
17. Anger
18. Revenge
19. Hatred/Rage
20. Jealousy
21. Insecurity/Guilt/Unworthiness
22. Fear/Grief/Depression/Despair/Powerlessness

As you write statements to that elicit each emotion, pay attention to how the feelings have been gradually getting better. It’s just a matter of finding a true statement about (and aspect of) the situation that match each respective feeling level and elicit that. If you can make up more than one for each feeling, that will work even better. You can just wallow in the feelings.

Good luck.

Working your way out of the dumps Pt. 1

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Hello everybody.

I can’t believe it’s been this long since I have last posted something. Been swamped at work, and by some other stuff. But…

This provided me with a great opportunity to test out a series of tools I’ve assembled to raise my spirits and my vibrations…

Ever since The Secret became part of popular culture and was featured on Oprah, we all know about the importance of keeping those vibes sky high. Like Abraham (see www.abraham-hicks.com) says, “Nothing is as important as that you feel good.”

Now that can make us a bit paranoid, can’t it? We don’t always feel good. So does that mean we draw bad stuff when we feel bad? Well, yes. That’s exactly what it means.

Ever had one of those days? You get up on the wrong side of the bed, and things go downhill from there. The reverse is also true. Some days you’re just thrilled to get out of bed and on with your day, and things just fall into place. People are nice to you, parking spaces open up right where you need them, and you find $20 bills all over the place (or at least pennies or quarters).

So there is a great deal of benefit to doing what it takes to make ourselves feel good. And it’s not nearly as hard as it might seem.

I’m talking about some of that in my new mini series on Roger’s Pie Theory of Energy (see below). But there are other techniques I’m using and I’ll be writing about those in more detail right here!

Meanwhile, here’s a quick one (from Abraham): whenever I find myself wallowing in self-pity or indulge my inner worrywart (say the challenges seem a bit too daunting, again) I stop myself and ask: What DO I want? And so instead of worrying about bills and other things I don’t want, I’m rejoicing in the additional income I would like and how happy I would be at the extra dollars and checks that flow into my life. Or something like that. And maybe I do little session of appreciating everything worth appreciating, starting with the balmy air (if applicable) or my friends or the smooth flavor and soothing warmth of my coffee etc.

Now when I say, whenever I feel bad, that’s an overstatement. I don’t always remember to do that immediately.

The key to the entire arsenal of techniques is this: to remember to use them. I’m working on that, and I’m happy to report that I’m getting better. I remember much more quickly, and my bouts of wallowing or worrying are already much shorter than they used to be.

Next time, I’ll write about the long version (more detailed, much more powerful) of my favorite thought management technique that I use to get those vibes way up.

Have a wonderful day!
