Building a List…

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Hello all and welcome back to my blog (or welcome for the first time). I just finally figured out how to insert a form for the opt-in mailing list so I can send you cool pieces of info (more detail than will appear on the blog) about my very favorite self-help resources.

So if you would like to get the occasional email from me with tips and resources about stuff that I find helpful (and you might too), please fill in your name and email address below. You will get an email from AWeber where you’ll need to confirm that you REALLY want to get my emails and bingo, you’ll be on!

Here’s the form (not pretty, but functional I believe. I’ll make them prettier once I know how):

Email:
Name:

If you should ever decide you’d rather not get them anymore, there’ll be a link on each of the emails, and it will automatically unsubscribe you. And, obviously, I will not share your email address with anyone. If I come across something you might like, I’ll send the info to you directly by way of my mailing list and let you decide. One last thing: you might want to put this email address on your “safe” list or whitelist: selfhelpstuff@aweber.com.Eventually, this blog will also get more interactive (as I learn how to do that…)Anyway, that’s it for the moment. Thanks so much for reading, and for subscribing. And have a fabulous day! :)

Great New Product Ideas? Here’s How To Get Them, Courtesy Of Marlon Sanders!

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Hello again,

It’s time I wrote more stuff on my new blog, isn’t it. So here goes…

Have you noticed that I keep writing a whole lot about the internet — well, for me that’s all part of self-help, and the part that I find particularly intriguing right now because I’ve been learning so much about it lately. I’m so excited I can hardly keep from bursting with excitement. But you knew that already, right.

Meanwhile, if you don’t agree, not to worry. I’m working on setting up a few more blogs that are going to be a bit more specialized (somebody told me that was a good idea (and it was Mike Paetzold, the guru of Word Press Blogs). And once they’re all in place, this one will be strictly self-help, well, more or less, maybe sorted a bit, with info on what’s on the other blogs…

In the meantime, I’ll be writing more on this one, and here, for once, is an article I didn’t even write myself.

I just came across it on the site of one of my newest most favorite marketing guru Marlon Sanders, the creator of the fabulous info product dashboard, and managed to get permission to publish it here. So here goes:

Hi,

this weekend I dropped by Circuit City to
buy a couple electronic gizmos.

While there, I noticed they had these totally
smoking hot new DVD RECORDERS.

You heard right. These puppies are not just
players.

They record!

I felt this big rush of excitement as I thought,
“Wow, this makes it brain dead simple to transfer
some of my old VHS speeches to DVD. Not to
mention the ability to record TV programs straight
to DVD.

“What’s more, I can plug my video camera right
into the front of it using the i-link (firewire)
thingy and record video straight to DVD.

How handy.

So I whipped out my debit card and snagged myself
one of ‘em.

….When I got home, the fun began.

I hooked it up. Pushed record and…

BLAMMO.

All I got was an error message saying I had to take
the DVD through set up.

I tried and tried. Couldn’t do it. To say it
wasn’t “intuitive” would be an understatement.

I took a break. Got frustrated. Decided to read
the stupid manual.

Of course, I have a cable box. And NONE of the
hook up instructions covered how to hook it up
if you had cable.

Arrggghhh!

So I go back to the store I bought it from and asked
for instructions. I bought a bunch more cords and
stuff. Hooked it up like the guy at the store said.

NOTHING.

So I actually went to a DIFFERENT store and bought
another one, planning on returning the first one.
The second one had the same exact idiot set up
screen and manual as the first one.

Different product. Same manual!

Geez Louise.

Now, I’m already missin’ more hair in the middle
of my head than I’d quite honestly prefer. But
I’m pretty sure now I’m missing even more.

‘Cause I started pulling it out!

Well, it still doesn’t work.

Why am I telling you this story? Because I went
to the bookstore and bought a book about hooking
up this kind of stuff. Didn’t solve my problem.

But what it shows is that when people have a
problem causing them aggravation, they’ll pay
to fix it. And every aggravation you have is
an opportunity to make money by selling something
that fixes the aggravation.

The other thing I can tell you is that there are
only three basic things we sell: Time, money and
energy.

Whatever you sell either saves people time, money
or energy (for example, eliminating frustration).
Or it helps the person have more of thoses things
in some way or the other.

The next time you are about to pull your hair
out, here’s what I want you to think, “Someone
is going to make a fortune by solving this
problem.”

And sooner or later maybe a problem will come
along where YOU decide to be the one who
solves it and makes a fortune doing so.

THAT is how you get great ideas for your
own products.

Best wishes,

Marlon Sanders

P.S. If you want to get a great deal of insight
into creating and selling your own problem-
solving info product, I have an inexpensive
“gets-you-started” intro crash course.

Want your own blog? It’s easy…

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Would you like your own blog? I can’t believe how easy it is. If I had known, I would have been blogging for years!!!

So here’s my first self-help resource: If you too would like to learn how to do some easy blogging with WordPress, check out Mike Paetzold’s course “Wordpress Made Easy” on how to do so easily, and quickly.

And if you want to do all that cool stuff that others are doing with their blogs, including making some serious cash, Mike can help you there too with his advanced course.

I’m still studying his materials, but hey, he got me off to a quick start. And takes me by the hand to help me set up a rocking money-making blog :-) (tee-hee!).

More info to follow soon… I’ve got some cool resources that have transformed me from a paralized-by-fear-of-technology e-wimp to someone who’s staying up into the wee hours because she just can’t tear herself away from all that excitement! So beware, too much knowledge can interfere with the rest of your life. But then again, it’s all what you make of it, right?

Welcome to my favorite self-help stuff blog

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Hello Dear Reader,

Welcome to my shiny new favorite self-help blog! I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do…

I’m so excited that I finally got this blog set up! I’ve been meaning to do this for a good long while, and now, finally, here it is!

Why did I want to have a blog? Doesn’t everybody have one? Just kidding.

Well, I guess I’m a bit of a self-help junkie and as I have accumulated info that helped me on my personal path of growth, I’ve shared it with friends, some of whom seem to feel like I’m a walking encyclopedia of the stuff. A very biased walking encyclopedia.

Biased how, you may wonder… I’m a big fan of self-empowerment! Kind of like Oprah’s slogan of “live your best life.” Or, like Abraham puts it: “Nothing is as important as that I/you feel good.” And the cool thing is that it works!

So what I’ll be doing here is writing little blurbs on all sorts of resources I’ve found that I really like. I mean REALLY like!!! With my biased but helpful (I like to think) commentary. And links to share with anyone who wants to give them a whirl.

So there you have it. Any questions?

Here’s one: who the heck is writing this blog.

Well, I was going to use a nom de plume, also known as pen name, because I’d like to remain anonymous for the time being. But then I couldn’t send my friends to this thing, and even if they found it they wouldn’t know it was mine. And what would be the fun in that?

So I’m going to use my real name, sort of.

Coming up within the next day or so: my first post on a favorite self-help tool.

Stay tuned and have a wonderful day!

Elisabeth, the self-help guru wannabe.
