Get Ready for Hurricane Sandy – Hurricane Preparation Tips

Are you ready for Hurricane Sandy? The staples are just about gone from the stores nearby, so if you haven’t stocked up yet, you may have to hunt for the essentials…

Hurricane Sandy Preparation Tips

* water
* batteries
* gas (yes, be sure to fill your gas tank – in case gas stations lose power)
* flash lights or battery operated lanterns

VERY IMPORTANT:

Keep some cash handy! In the event of a power outage, the ATM machines won’t work!

Also be sure to charge all your electronic devices, from cell phones to ipods and Kindles.

What about food?

If you have a gas stove, make sure you have one of those BBQ lighters handy. They’ll help you light up the stove and are way safer than matches.

And keep a hand-operated can opener handy. And cans with food that won’t taste too bad if it isn’t heated. Beans are healthy and tasty. Keep some salsa around, and the combo will make for a good meal.

Run the dishwasher (and maybe the washer/dryer) before the hurricane hits. You’ll be grateful for the clean dishes and clothes.

A battery operated radio will be handy too – there won’t be TV without power!

Also, make sure you have some warm clothes handy, along with warm blankets and extra shoes. It’ll be a pain to try and find them with a flash light.

Hopefully, Hurricane Sandy will drift off to sea before creating too much damage, but in the meantime, make sure you’re prepared.

I liken this to the umbrella principle… if you take an umbrella with you, you’ll find a lot of the time that it won’t rain. Ditto for being ready for a few days without power.

I’ll be back with more hurricane preparation tips later…

For now, start at the top and work your way down…
