Spring Cleaning Tips — Clearing Clutter

Spring Cleaning Tips for Clearing Clutter…

Do you have too much stuff? Especially too many books, CDs, DVDs, games, etc.?

Sometimes it’s hard to let go, and so I’d like to share a couple of ideas that are helping me to let go of excess books (not as fast as I’d like, but still…)

The thing is, I really like my books. I have also invested a considerable amount of money in them, so I can’t just throw them out, even if I don’t think I’ll ever read them again.

But…

There’s a way to release them and feel good about it too. Check out the following options (the first one is my favorite):

1) Sell Your Stuff on Amazon.com Marketplace

That one works with books, media mail items of all kinds, and even other stuff.

You can go to Amazon.com, find the book or item you have to sell, and just click on “Have one to sell” and you’re off to the races.

I have actually written a thorough guide on how to get the most from selling things on Amazon.com Marketplace that could save you lots of time and effort if you’re new to this:

2) eBay

You can also sell stuff on eBay of course. The trick is to know what to sell where. I’ve got a FREE ebook on that one: eBay vs. Amazon where you can find out what to sell where for best results.

The same thing applies. It’s always easier to let things go if you know they’re going to someone who wants them enough to be willing to pay for them.

3) Your favorite charity

Next, you can release anything that won’t go into any of the above categories to your favorite charity. Do pick one that has actually use for your stuff. If you have books and media items, pick a charity that has a store that has a nice book section.

There are a couple of places locally that have a very well stocked book section, and I know that if I give my books to them they will find a new home. Another charity, on the other hand, has just a couple of jumbled shelves for the books — booklovers are unlikely to seek them out for special finds.

4) Garage sales

Well, there’s that option too. In fact, it’s a very popular one when it comes to spring cleaning tips. At some level, it may be less work than eBay OR Amazon.com, but the yield is probably going to be a lot lower as well.

Then again, it helps with clearing clutter, and probably faster than listing things for sale. But you’ll have to be willing to let them go for pennies on the dollar.

5) Give them to friiends

Some items may be just the right gift for a friend. So give it to them. No special occasion needed. You might even try a book swap party.

6) Used book stores

How well that works depends on the used book stores in your area. I’d try that option last, before the charity because most used book stores are a) picky and b) don’t give you much for your books.

Hope this helps. Also, if you STILL find it hard to part with your clutter, you may want to tap on it with EFT (emotional freedom technique). Do I have a handy ebook on that as well? You bet I do! And it’s even FREE!

Just click here: Easy EFT ebook.

And have fun decluttering and make some money off your former treasures.

Watching the show ‘Hoarders’ on tv has given me new incentive to clean out my closets and drawers. It really frees up my energy to do so. In the past, I have always given my stuff to charity but now I will consider selling it.

Cool. Thanks for your comment, Sherri.

Not that I begrudge the charities their take. Actually, I believe that even if you sell some or a lot of the stuff, there’s probably plenty also for charity. If anything, once the clearing starts, it builds momentum, and getting some $ back is very inspiring in that regard, to me at least.

I certainly find myself donating a lot more once I get into the “selling” mode, because that also gets me into the “letting go” mode…
